House of Wind Hot Cocoa

Nesta, Emerie, and Gwyn all have a thing for Hot Cocoa, and how can you blame them? This classic comfort beverage can make even the worst days seem like they aren’t that bad after all. Myself, I love to indulge in this wonderful drink at least once a week and I will never grow tired of it. Here’s my favorite at home preparation- no premix here- with a little pinch of some extra spices to make it even more cozy and delightful.

Ingredients

  1. Dark cocoa powder, preferably raw cacao, for the health benefits.

  2. Brown sugar, 1 ish tablespoons/to taste

  3. 12ish oz your favorite milk

  4. Cinnamon stick for stirring

  5. Pinch of cayenne or other chili powder. (Optional)

  6. Add a pinch of Rose Powder to feel extra decadent and feminine. (Also Optional)

Get a pan and heat your favorite milk slowly, so you don’t scald it. When your milk begins to warm, add the cacao/ cocoa powder, the sugar, and the chili powder, and whisk into the milk until its smooth, steamy, a little frothy, and well blended. Pour into your favorite mug, add a cinnamon stick to stir (or sprinkle a pinch on the top) and sit back and relax with a good book, a la Nesta, Emerie, and Gwyn.

Gwyn stroked Nesta’s head. “Some things are more important than fear.” She cleared her throat. “But please don’t remind me too much. I’m so nervous I really might vomit.” Even Nesta smiled at that. Her two friends fussed over her, sitting at the kitchen table and drinking hot cocoa—a belated Solstice gift to Emerie from Nesta, pilfered from the House’s larder. They ate dinner, and then dessert, and discussed their latest reads. They spoke about everything and nothing long into the night. Page 644, A Court of Silver Flame
