Day 75: Smacked with Fatigue
As if part of tradition, last night I did not sleep, not well enough to be considered restful. I tossed and turned, my eyes unable to relax and stay closed, my brain awake awake awake, and my legs were restless, kicking and shuffling, cricket rubbing, and could not get comfortable. I laid in bed half awake all night. This is very much normal for me in the final days before my cycle starts. I always have 1 or 2 days where my hormones are crashing so intensely that my cortisol levels are high, and I am unable to relax enough to sleep. At some point in the night, my cramps ramped up and I continued to not sleep. The joys of womanhood.
Needless to say, today is a low energy day. I am exhausted. I wish to curl up in bed and do nothing. Alas, it is the day before turkey day, and of course I am so busy it’s stupid. Dishes upon dishes to be washed all day, pies to bake, cranberry sauce to make, salad to prep, getting the bird and the stuffing ready, not to mention food for everyone eat today. I may have cheated and gotten some dino nuggets for the kids to feast on for lunch today to make it easier on me.
I stayed in bed as long as I could, about 8am, and then I got up and made my tea. Had some snuggles with my kids, discussed tomorrow’s plans, and my needs for today, so everyone would know that Mom would be in the kitchen and rather busy preparing a feast. Everyone got started on an art activity and I got started on the mat. I spent a lot of time in childs pose, in corpse pose, just breathing. Downward dog felt like a lot, so I switched to some seated positions to stretch my back and hamstrings. With my hot tea in hand, I listened to Uplifting Mindstilling and then kept going with Winter Mindstilling. Even with my exhaustion I could still feel the restlessness in my legs, so I doubled up on Mindstilling today to try and find some peace within myself.
I walked Yrsa in the sunshine, we slipped and slid across the ice a few times. It’s a toasty 51 degrees and brighter than an LED light with the light slamming into the bright snow. The glare was impossible to see with. Now I’m onto feast prep, Cranberries first, because they take the least amount of time, and because I think they’re so pretty.
