Aug 31: Step it Up
I DON’T THINK I CAN CONTAIN MYSELF ANYMORE!! I’m so over the moon excited for the next few days to commence, I feel like a raccoon that drank a redbull. I jumped out of bed this morning, and was dancing around the kitchen while I made my tea and got some breakfast, something positively unheard of for me, pre caffeine.
Obviously I need a thorough workout to get rid of some of this energy, so I decided to be crazy and do a ridiculously long training session today. Probably not intense by Cassian standards, but for my Mom-bod, this was hard.
Starting out with 10 minutes of breathing:
I boosted myself up on one of my Night Court yoga blocks to help with posture. If you’re top heavy like me, sitting up straight can literally hurt, so boosting up on a yoga block while I kept my legs criss-cross-apple-sauce in front of me on the ground, really helped.
Back straight, hips under my shoulders, I followed Gwyn’s instructions for breathing. A 6 count slow inhale, and a 6 count slow exhale, 3 times. I then did 3 more rounds of these deep breaths, but focused on bringing my breath down to the depths of my core, making sure I expanded my diaphragm fully, and then pushed all of the air out of me on my exhale.
Yoga Flow– I’ve not really had a desire to expand much beyond my Sun Salutation, so it’s pretty standard here. I just make sure it’s slow and aligned with my breath and that all my muscles are engaged through each pose and movement through it.
now… A Court of Sweat and Sass
Nesta’s Curtsey Lunges I imagine Nesta needed to know what these were to learn to dance.
Helion’s Power Knee Drives just to make sure that you're keeping your balance too.
Squat Pikes because a normal squat isn't painful enough.
Plank the Rainbow which I don't mind at all because at least it's not boring.
There are a couple more moves in the video, so remember to check out http://themicrosquad.com and check out the geek gym content to find the whole thing!
As usual, Yrsa and I did our mile cool down walk. It’s already 70 outside so it didn’t feel very cooling to me. My legs shook the entire time, and I could feel the steady ache increasing in my obliques as I walked. I’m still practicing keeping my posture correct and actively pulling my hips forward during my walks to prevent my back from tightening up again. So it’s basically a mile hold of my lower abdominals inward. The sweat is real.
I timed my entire routine from start to finish today. A La Emerie, I spent an hour between breathing, yoga, deep core engaging workout, A Court of Sweat and Sass, and then our walk. Now, for the rest of the day.
